Be Organized For Better Money Making

Ill just put some inputs on how to be efficient in making money online.
1. Select the methods that you will do, get a note and a pen to write them. If you just write them in your pc's notepad, chances are you wont keep track and be one of those junk files on your pc.
2. Do 1 of the method for the days to come until you mastered it, dont do them at the same time. Doing more on 1 thing will yield more in the beginning than doing less on many things.
3. If you mastered the method already, write it on your note and put a schedule on the time you should finish the work for that method(e.g. by 6pm, I should have uploaded 200 videos on youtube, etc). Then do the next method until you master it. And the cycle will go on until such time you will have your schedules of work for the day.
Making a schedule keeps you on track of the things that you have to do. It works pretty good on me. It will give you a sense of urgency and accomplishment, unlike when you dont have one.
Always keep a pen and a note with you always, to write ideas that suddenly pops on your mind. If you dont, chances are you will just forget them.(basing this on my self)
Common mistakes by people are trying a method they see here, then after a try they didnt make anything, then decides to stop and find another method. You should focus on that method until you master it, there are many small details that will have a great impact on the effectiveness of the method. This things are usually overlooked. If the method works for someone, chances are it would also work with you.

$80 Daily With Yahoo Answer

All you have to do is go to Cj.com, LinkShare or new affiliate network Pepperjam and find a really good and a very debated product. Something that people will always need, such as "debt/credit" or "loans".
The CPA program I was in revolved around "credits".... So now that you have that you simply go to Yahoo Answers and find all the questions that have to do with "credits"... Over 75% of them are people that dont know how to fill for it. This is an advantage. Plus every one is asking questions about credits every 2 minutes. So its non stop...
All you do is answer there question with your affiliate link. Such as "hhmmm?? You know what Im not very sure but you should try (place affiliate link) And BAM!! You just made $11 per lead.
But word of advise. Make sure you have multiple Yahoo Answers accounts. You will get some haters who will flag you.
Hope this trick will be helpful.
Also you can use this trick with Copeac, Millnic Media or ClickBooth

SEO Tips Of Copywriting For Google, Yahoo and Site Visitors

How to Write Great Web Site Content
Keyword research: This topic deserves a whole article on its own, but suffice to say that you'll want to base your site content on the keyword terms that you know are most popular among the audience you're trying to reach. There are online tools available that can help you determine the right keywords for your company. Among them are WordTracker and Keyword Discovery.
One topic per page: If your company makes 5 different products, you'll need to devote at least one page per topic.
Details, details: Each topic should be covered in enough detail that the site visitor can determine whether to contact you for more information. From an SEO standpoint, the more detail you provide on each topic, the more easily the search engines will be able to determine the relevance of your site to that keyword.
Kill the sales brochure: Internet users don't appreciate going to your web to find only a sales brochure. Avoid flowery language; it usually signifies a page that's light on content and heavy on sales pitch, which the search engines won't rank well. Good SEO copywriting will focus on objective facts about your company's products and services, with a call-to-action for more information.
Create a content hierarchy: The more detail, the better, but be considerate of your site visitors' time. Good SEO copywriting separates content into multiple pages and creates a hierarchy for your pages with most important information first, least important last. The most important pages you'll want on your navigation bar, with lesser pages linking off those. Make sure you include a site map, though, that lists all your web site's pages.
Keyword density: In order for search engines to be able to rank your pages for a particular keyword, that keyword has to be used on your page. At the same time, the more often you use it, the more relevant the page will seem.
ONE CAVEAT: Don't go overboard. Writing should sound natural to the human visitors you're trying to reach. Search engines can penalize you for "overoptimizing" by using the keyword too often (known as keyword stuffing or spamming).
Types of Content to Consider for Your Company Web Site

Part of the SEO copywriting process is project planning. It's important to take the time to consider what information people would want to know about your company. Here are some types of content well received by Internet visitors and search engines:

  • Product details, including features/benefits, specifications, data sheets, diagrams, flow-charts, video demonstrations and photos (with alt tags, see below)
  • Technical tips, product troubleshooting guides, user manuals
  • Customer testimonials, case studies
  • Industry definitions
  • Product selection guides, comparative information

Advice on Adding PDFs to your Site

Search engines have become more sophisticated in being able to index varying file types. PDFs work fine for information that site visitors might want to print out and keep. But, if you use PDFs, make sure they open in a separate browser. Also, add a link to your home page somewhere on each PDF; otherwise, site visitors that enter your site from a search engine via the PDF won't have navigation to take them to the rest of your site.

Where to Get Ideas for Good SEO Content

Type your top keywords into Google and Yahoo and see what sites and pages come up on the first or second page of results. This will give you a good idea of some of the content that search engines like. More specifically, take a look at:

  • Competitor sites
  • Industry portal sites
  • Industry magazine sites
  • Resource sites

See what types of content they provide that your site could emulate (not copy).

Other On-Page SEO Copywriting Tips

Once your content is written, it's time to place it on the page. Here are some additional details you'll need to be concerned with to complete the SEO copywriting process:

  • Title tags: Make sure each page title tag is unique and complements the content of that page. For instance, if your page is about "blue suede shoes", then your title tag might be "Blue Suede Shoes ABC Company"
  • Description tags: Likewise, you'll want each page description tag to be unique and complementary to the page it describes. This is the information that many of the search engines use to display a description of your page.
  • Keyword tags: Most search engines have de-emphasized use of the keyword tag, but we feel it's a useful tool to help you organize your site content. If you followed the advice above regarding one topic per page, then your keyword tag would be pretty short and limited to that topic. It'll probably have more than one term in it as there might be multiple ways to describe the topic, but this is a good check that you're in the process of writing a well-optimized page.
  • Alt tags: You can use the meta alt tag to help search engines interpret what your nav buttons and images are about. Search engines can't "see" images, so unless you specifically tell them, that information will be ignored. If you have a picture of blue suede shoes, use the Alt tag to label it as "blue suede shoes."
  • Internal linking: Build your keyword phrases into the links on your pages that are used to navigate from page to page. For instance, a call to action might be "Contact ABC Company for more information about our blue suede shoes," with the phrase "more information about our blue suede shoes" as the link. Avoid using "clíck here" as the link.

I've created quite a to-do líst of SEO Copywriting Tips, but when done properly, your SEO copywriting efforts will help yield long-term results in the way of top placement on Google and Yahoo and, most importantly, increased opportuníty to reach new potential customers.

8 Useful SEO Techniques Every Webmaster Should Know

By Titus Hoskins (c) 2008

Every webmaster should have some basic understanding of these simple SEO techniques if they want to achieve Top Rankings for their site. The more you know about these Search Engine Optimization techniques; the better your web pages will fare in the different search engines, especially Google.
Optimizing your pages for the search engines should be your main priority because conquering and dominating your chosen keywords is often cited as one of the major determining factors in the success of your online site or business. You must have a rudimentary grasp of how SEO can work for you and your site.
These simple SEO Tips will help you understand the basics and help you reach your online goals.
1. Title Tag
The Title Tag is located at the top of your html page and it tells the search engines what your page is about. When you open your page in a browser these are the words at the very top of the screen. Despite its simplicity, the title tag is crucial to 'on-page optimization'; it should include your main keywords and it should be 63 characters or less if you want your title to appear in full on Google.
Many SEO experts create web pages in a three-prong approach. They place the title in:
- the title tag - on the webpage itself - and in the URL for that page
Sometimes they will just pick the main keywords from the title and place them in the anchor url instead. For example: www.yourwebsite.com/keywords.html
2. Meta Description Tag
The Meta Tag contains the description for your web page. Your description will show up in all the search engines so you have to be careful to write precisely and objectively. It should be about 140 characters or around 20 words. Make sure to include your keywords but don't spam - don't repeat your keywords more than twice - using variations is helpful.
Keep in mind, successful webmasters make their descriptions stand out from the crowd and entice the surfer to click their link. It is also the first contact with your potential visitor or prospect so make a good first impression.
3. Anchor Tag or URL
The anchor tag is used to form links within websites or from site to site. This tag should have your title or the main keywords from your page title to be the most effective.
Anchor text is also important to know - these are the underlined, clickable text or words in a link. anchor text
If you want to check Google for all web pages containing your keywords in the anchor tags.
Just type into Google Search: allinanchor:yourkeywords
4. Finding Backlinks
One of the keys to higher rankings is building quality links from relevant, related quality sites. The search engines, especially Google, count each link as a "vote" for your site or content. Many experts suggest you include your main keywords in the anchor text of these inbound links in order to rank high.
If you want to find the number of backlinks your site has.
Just type into Google Search: link:yourURL
and it will give you the number of backlinks you have.
Google doesn't give you all your existing backlinks, so you can try Yahoo! to find a more exact number.
Just open Yahoo! and type in: linkdomain:yourURL
5. Checking Indexed Pages
If is very important for you to know what content the search engines have indexed from your site. You can also check to see how your links are displayed and to see if any titles or descriptions are missing from your pages.
You can see how many of your pages are indexed in Google by using the site command.
Just type into Google Search: site:yourURL
Another way to look at your pages in Google is to type in "http://yoursite" and "www.yoursite" with the quotation marks to see the exact number of listings for each.
6. Checking Google Cache
You can also check to see the Google Cache of your site by using the cache command. You will also discover when it was last retrieved.
Just type into Google Search: cache:yourURL
7. Finding Associated Keywords
Keywords are the heart of the Internet, you must dominate the search engines for your chosen keywords if you are to succeed online. So make sure you have your main keywords in the Meta Keyword Tag on your page. Many experts suggest you place your page's main keywords in the first and last 25 words on that page.
You must also be able to find and use variations of your keywords to completely conquer your targeted niche. To find what other keywords Google has associated with your main keywords, just use the tilde ~ command to find associated phrases in Google.
Just type into Google search: ~keywords
Variations will be highlighted in bold print.
8. Finding Titled Keywords
If you want to find competing sites that have your keywords in the title just use the allintitle command.
Just type into Google search: allintitle:yourkeywords
In summary, if used consistently, these basic SEO techniques should help improve your rankings and keep you in the picture with regards to your standings in the search engines. Your site's stats or raw traffic logs will also confirm the rise or fall of your keyword rankings. You must have complete knowledge of both your site and your keywords in the search engines, especially Google. Since Google will deliver most of your quality traffic, you must optimize for it and be aware of what is happening to your site and keywords within Google. This is yet another example where knowledge equals success.

Targeted Traffic and How To Get It

If you have a website, you know that traffic is essential, especially if you have something to sell. Not just any old traffic, though - you need targeted traffic.
How is targeted traffic defined? It means website visitors who have a specific interest in the topic of the website. For example, someone who is planning to buy a wedding ring would be interested in jewelry websites.
How do I get targeted traffic? Here are some effective techniques:
Forums:
Whatever your topic, there's sure to be at least one forum about it. Subscribe to a couple of forums. Join in the discussions, answer questions, and ask pertinant questions yourself. Become known as an expert in the field. Then with each article reply you write, have a discreet link to your website in the signature file. What can be placed in your signature is often determined by the forum moderators. Do not spam the forum or you will be stopped from posting. You should be able to get a fair amount of traffic from a popular forum, and the people who click your link will already be familiar with your writing style.
Linking from/to other websites:
Look for websites which are similar to yours (but which do not compete directly). Ask the website owner for a reciprocal link. Be sure to pick link partners who match your customer profile. Try using a software program like Arelis to help you find link partners.
E-Zines:
Buy adverts in ezines that target your market. Perform a test to ensure that the return on your investment is enough to cover the cost of the adverts. You may save a considerable amount.
Newsletters:
Offer your visitors something of value, such as an eBook, in exchange for signing up for your newsletter. Write your newsletter so that it's tightly focused on your subject. You should publish your newsletter regularly, preferably once a week.
E-Books:
Write (or have written) a free informational eBook which you can give away to your clients and others. You can place links back to your website in the eBook.
Joint Ventures:
Online marketers are always looking for products to sell. They may have large mailing lists with eager to buy customers. Usually they will be willing to send an email to their list for a cut of the sale price. This works particularly well with informational products. It has several advantages. It can give a large boost to both your mailing list and sales in a short time.
Buy Expired Domain Traffic:
This may be the most expensive in terms of money, but also the cheapest in terms of time. You will usually get a traffic boost within a month. What is it that you're buying? You are buying traffic from a company which has invested in expired domain names.
They are domain names which are still registered on the search engines which get a certain amount of traffic. The previous domain name owners have not renewed the registration for whatever reason. The traffic from the expired domain name is redirected to your website. This is usually high quality traffic as only expired domains with relevant traffic is redirected to you. As always, you should undertake a test run to see if this traffic is suitable.
When you combine these techniques and apply them consistently over time you will find a rich source of targeted traffic coming to your website. This, combined with quality products will ensure the success of your online business.

3 Fast and Simple Ways to Dominate Google Rankings!

By Michael Small (c) 2008

I got into search engine optimization back in 1998. Of course back then SEO was a lot simpler than today. All the tricks like keyword spamming and invisible key phrases worked like a charm. Better still, little tricks like these were acceptable. Not anymore.

In fact, most old-school tricks don't work today and many can get your pages banned. This is great news for you. Over the next few minutes I'll show you how to make Google absolutely LOVE your web pages and help you jump to the top!
This is all you need to know... Search engines today place 90% or more of their ranking priorities on content and links. Keywords are still important, but more so in the text of your pages than in any sort of META tags.
Simple, right? It really is. The first step is to find the best keywords and place them just right in your web page text. Next you need to get great inbound links. And finally, you need to monitor your progress closely (and that of your competition.)
Part 1: How to Find the Best Keywords

Google gets more searches than any other search engine so let's peek into their database. Check out https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and type in any keyword or phrase you can think of that you believe your target audience is looking for. Not only will it give you tons of data on that and related keywords, it will also provide "Additional Keywords to Consider", which is a section at the bottom of the page.

BIG TIP: Try to use specific keyword phrases whenever possible. Let's say you have a web-page dealing with floral delivery. Instead of just the word "flowers", which has 233,000,000 competing pages on Google, try "send flowers", which has 1/10th the number of competing pages. Better still, think like people speak (I.E./ I'm sending flowers to my mom.) As it turns out, a lot more people are searching for "sending flowers" than are searching "send flowers" and - here's the best part - "sending flowers" has less than 1% of the competing web-pages as the search term we started with, "flowers". Now that's impressive! You have an advantage over about 99.5% of your competitors with just that single tip.

Now take the top three or four keywords (and keyword phrases) and list them in order from best to second best and so on.

Part 2: How to Develop the Best Possible Content

Content is king! If you take nothing else away from this article, make sure you take this. Producing search engine friendly, optimized real-person content is key to your success. Today's search engines can read a page just like a human would. And thanks to natural text algorithms, they can easily tell if you are writing your pages for real people or just trying to get better ranking. With this tip, you can do both!

First, call a good friend and describe exactly what you want to tell your web visitors. Now write it down, word for word, as close as you can remember it. If you can record it, that's even better.

Now go back through your text and fit your top keyword as close to the beginning of the first sentence as possible. Now place your number two keyword someplace else toward the beginning of your first paragraph. If possible, try to get your third keyword into the end of your first paragraph or the beginning of the second paragraph.

Repeat this concept using only one of your keywords for each of the next three paragraphs. Try to make it fit naturally toward the beginning sentence or two of each paragraph.

Now do the reverse for the very last paragraph. Put your least important keyword at the top of the paragraph and end with your most important. This shows consistency.

Finally, try not to repeat any keyword more than three or four times per page. Make it flow naturally.

Part 3: How to Get Great Links and Monitor Your Site

Having quality inbound links can account for more than 75% of your search engine optimization success. Getting these links is the crucial step that will get you over the top. Next you need to monitor your progress and your site's status (how search engines really see it). This will tell you not just where you are - but where you are likely to be. In the old days, we used to do all link work and monitoring by hand - and it took a long time (I averaged about 16 hours per week - per site!) My advice to you is to find a good SEO tool and let it do the work for you. If you get the right product, it's the best money you'll ever spend.

I used WebPosition Pro for a couple years but switched to SEO Elite because it has automated linking, which I find to be the most time-consuming aspect of SEO. Both are excellent products for tracking and reporting however.

Number 1 Pick: SEO Elite

Cost = $167 (lifetime free upgrades and no annual fees)

My Results: 121 top 5 rankings on Google in three weeks - Mostly 1's and 2's.

Top Features: Finds best link partners; Automates link process; Provides great Site Monitoring

Comments: I bought SEO Elite in 2005 and have used every upgrade - never spending another dime. I retired my other three programs after using this for just three months.

Number 2 Pick: WebPosition

Cost = $389 WebPosition Pro or $149 Standard (plus $99 per year subscription fees for either)

My Results: 44 top 5 rankings in Google in eight weeks - Mostly 3's and 4's.

Top Features: Site Monitoring; Great reporting; Site Critic

Comments: I stopped using WebPosition because there were no automated linking capabilities. I did however really like the reporting.

Now you're ready. Good luck!

Who Is Mr. Shawn Casey? Is He For Real?

It's just been brought to my attention that Shawn Casey is now giving away hia five hundred dollar e-mail marketing software for free. I grabbed my copy and while I don't feel that it's worth $500, you'd be stupid not to get it for free. This "business in a box" concept if freaking genious. So, who's Shawn Casey?
Shawn—a successful self-made millionaire and Group Leader at SFI—takes readers step-by-step through the process of succeeding on the Internet with an online home-business.
Shawn Casey is real big on teaching about the power of Joint Ventures. I know Joint Ventures are a valuable part of any business persons life, but I also know, just about every marketing guru in the world is teaching them. So I think the topic of Joint Venture is getting over-done to some degree.
When I read what Shawn Casey had to say on the subject of Joint Ventues, the following appeared to be his stance on the topic.
The way I understood him, he says if you do have a product, joint ventures almost eliminate the risk of advertising. You pay your partner nothing until AFTER he's made sales for you. And you only pay in direct proportion to the number of sales he generates!
And then of course, he plugs his own company, name and website by saying "You can even joint venture with ME! (Get all the details when you order "Mining Gold"). Now you see why I guarantee you $1,000 within your first 5-15 days."
He claims to have this one special technique that is only available to a priveledged groups he calls his circle of "power players."
From what I read, he appears to be directly claiming you could be making thousands of dollars for an hour's work, as often as you want. And he loves to tell you how this special "Insiders Only" technique is fully detailed on page 77 of his system, "Mining Gold On The Internet".
But after reading page 77 of Mining Gold on the Internet, I don't see anything very special or new. I wasn't impressed.
Shawn Casey is so focused on joint ventures that I just saw an offer where he says you get his proven super-responsive Joint Venture Proposal form letter.
Then he goes on to say it's so responsive, that when he emails it to potential joint venture partners, 2 out of 3 reply with a strong interest. And he claims that the "average" deal generates about $1,000 profit for both him and the guy he's doing the venture with. But I tested his form letter and I didn't get these amazing results he's talking about. My numbers weren't even half as good as what he's talking about.
Although, I myself wasn't overly impressed with Shawn Casey or his teachings, I'm not going to say this is a bad offer. I think Shawn has a lot of potential as a marketing guru and I plan to keep on eye on what he's doing from time to time.

How To Make $250,000.00 Per Month

Here's how:

Buy Google Vouchers for $200 for on $5-10 and paying someone $5 per account they make for them… then deposit $5 they only have a $15 cost for $200 in Adwords spending.

Even at paying $2 (decent price for a high volume keyword) per click you would only need1 in 96 clicks to convert. From my experience in this market and with PPC I would estimatethey are converting 1 in 10 at the worst. If the offer paid them $20 (probably a fair estimate for a large provider price) then that would means they are making 9 conversions ($180) for only a $15 investment. AND these accounts are burning up the $200 in probably less then 30 minutes.

So if you could burn through those in 30 minutes (while this might sound crazy for people who do not do PPC trust me you could burn it up in <>

So in 4 months you are talking about a possible 1 million dollar profit. Just keep in mind these are pretty modest estimates but you see quickly how lucrative dominating Google Adwords could be for a company willing to push the limits with Google Adwords.

Do You Wanna Get Site With Legal High Page Rank And Make Good Money?

So, today I am gonna teach you how to make an automated 100% free site that will receive high page rank.
Ok, first I wanna state that this method is FREE but can take a bit long. If you want it to be faster you can but you then will need to spend money, something which I avoid the most.
Another note, this method is the "set and forget" method. Which means that the site will take care of itself. Plus you can end up making some nice cash which is always good. My job is to basically find the easiest ways to make money and just do it over and over again, and this is by far the most easiest one I have found. Alright , I shall begin.
HIGH PR Website
Ok, the website we are going to set-up is an article directory. I personally use Article Friendly, but not for this purpose. As I shall later explain, if you intend to sell the website use ADB, if it's for a personal use like the one in my sig then I'd recommend buying Article Friendly.
After downloading the directory, install it on your server. After that submit to Article Marketer, isnare and as many auto-submission services as possible. That way you will get free articles right into your site.
Now heres something most people don't know. Your PR isn't only affected by how many link you have going to your site. It's actually more affected by how many pages your website has that have been indexed by Google. You see, the number of pages you have directly affects what your maximum PR will be. Look for yourself, it will be extremely difficult if not impossible for you to find a one page websites that have PR 9.
If you only submit to AM and isnare, then if you wait about 1 year you should have a PR 6. When I market my article directories and send traffic to it I usually get to PR 2 with-in two months. And I don't market much, only a bit. I had an article directory receiving hundreds of submissions per day and making $700 every month via Adsense. It was also a PR 6 and took about 1 year or a little more to achieve all this. I then sold the website for $45,000 in pure profit. Many things affect when selling though, backlinks, domain name age, the quality, website design, traffic, etc... The one I sold have a good amount of organic traffic.
The one in my sig is not finished yet and is for personal use, Ill be waiting for a high PR and sell link from my site. It's only 20 days old and already has more than 500 pages indexed by Google.
This is a pretty solid money making technique and one that I like because I don't have to do anything, only install the software.
Download, install software, receive tons of free articles, wait for high PR and sell. Easy money like wishes all of us. Or you can keep the high PR and monetize the site and sell links.
Also I make money via Copeac, Text Link Ads, Adsense and new affiliate network Pepperjam(just launched two weeks ago is generating incredible profits)

Fake Your PageRank And How Detect Sites With Fake PR

While most SEO professionals agree that the green PageRank display has little to do with the actual performance of a site in Google and other search engines, many webmasters still focus on websites with a high PageRank when he promotion of their websites.

How to fake the PageRank of your sites
The PageRank of a web page can be faked with a combination of a 301 redirect and cloaking. It makes like this:
  • The search engine spiders visits a web page URL and the server redirects the spider to a web page with high PageRank.
  • Google assigns the high PageRank to the page with the redirection because it believes that the pages are identical.
  • When a people visits the web page URL, the server does not redirect the surfer. Its means that the user sees the web page of the faker and the Google toolbar displays the PageRank of the redirect URL
For users, it would seem that the web page has a very high PageRank although it has not. Note that this method does not increase page rank in any way. It affects the fair value PageRank displayed in the Google`s Toolbar.
Google does not like cloaking at all so you risks to the ranking of your website if you use the above method.
How to check website for a faked PageRank

If you suspect that a web page can have a faked PageRank, then you can do the following simple check:

  • Search Google for "info:domain.com" (without the quotation marks, replace domain.com with the URL that you want to check)
  • If there are no results or if the URL returned did not match the original URL then it is likely that the PageRank has been faked. If Google returns a single URL of the request and if the URL is the same as the checked URL the PageRank is okay.

Books From Famous Business Owners Which You Must Have And Read For Your Bussines Success at 2008

1. "This business has legs": How I Used Infomercial Marketing to Create the$100,000,000 ThighMaster Craze

This is an excellent (and well-written!) case study of bringing a popular product to market with infomercial marketing. I liked it so much I read it cover to cover, which is rare for me. Emphasis on marketing, typical business production/legal issues, plus very motivating on persistence while being an entrepreneur. I liked the testing details, copywriting and media buy numbers.. very eye-opening to me, and extremely insightful.
2. Marketing Secrets of a Mail Order Maverick : Stories & Lessons on the Power of Direct Marketing to Start a Successful Business, Create a Brand
This meaty book is packed with stories, lessons, ads, tips and techniques. In it Sugarman reveals the story of how he cleverly wrote a retail ad that sold thousands of computers in one morning, causing a line of people for blocks. (!) And I nearly cried reading about the ad Sugarman ran to raffle off his services as a copywriter to help raise money for the American Cancer Society after his mother's sad death. The bizarre twists and turns as a result of his idea---a train wreck, car wreck and a meeting with an Hawaiian healer---melted my heart while boggling my mind. Clearly, Sugarman has been around the block (often chased) in the world of marketing. He tells stories about his successes, as well as his failures, and they are riveting.
The success story about the software program that could accurately predict the stock market (which made many people wealthy) made me drool to get my hands on it. The failure story about the "Laser Beam Mousetrap" that went for $1,500 reveals how your ego can cripple your success. Then there are Sugarman's thoughts on type fonts, layout, photography, pricing, publicity (it doesn't sell much), humor (avoid it) and much more, that make this book required reading.
3. Losing My Virginity: How I've Survived, Had Fun, and Made a Fortune Doing Business My Way
I originally bought this book thinking it would be an interesting story of "how to make a billion like Richard Branson did". It didn't turn out that way, because what I found while reading it was that you would need to be another Richard Branson to replicate what he has done. However, I did find it to be a fascinating tale of a man who has succeeded through hard work, creativity, imagination and a true sense of "doing the right thing". He tells his tale with pride, but not arrogance. He also lets his personality shine through in his writing, which is certainly a plus. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to hear a compelling tale from a unique character.
4. Sam Walton: Made In America
It is hard to write an autobiography without displaying your bias. Sam Walton has done an outstanding job. Made in America is interesting and educational. Walton does an excellent job of peppering Walmart's story with some of his own childhood and background information which make the story more fun to read. No matter what your views on Walmart and its effect on US economy, this is a very important book to read. Furthermore the way he tells his story can appeal to a wide range of audience. One of the best autobiographies I've read!
5. Pour Your Heart into It : How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time
This is a story of how Starbucks changed the world. Howard Schultz, the CEO, tells the history of Starbucks starting with its founding in 1971 up until 1999. Schultz tells how he came on board, later bought the company and its sky-roacketing growth.
6. Time to Make the Donuts: The Founder of Dunkin Donuts Shares an American Journey
Bill Rosenberg's rise to the top is one filled with passion and drive and this aggressiveness is captured in "Time to Make the Donuts". Like many entrepreneurs, Rosenberg wasn't blessed with an bottomless bank account or a wealthy family to back him up. He was born into a lower- middle class family and he worked hard to achieve his dreams.
Rosenberg's business encounters are many and some of them are interesting to read about. In 1962, for example, he received a call from a guy named Jim McLamore, a young entrepreneur in his own right, who was looking for someone to become business partners with him while he tried to grow his hamburger business. He came to Rosenberg because he had heard about Bill's reputation for successful franchising. He asked Rosenberg to invest $150,000, which would make the two men 50/50 owners in the business. Rosenberg went over the business plan with his associates, but they decided to decline the offer because McLamore's business was in Florida, which was far away, and they wanted to concentrate on making donuts. McLamore's new business was called Burger King. Had Rosenberg accepted the offer, his $150,000 investment would have been worth more than $8 million just three years later! Rosenberg's Dunkin Donuts still grew into a highly successful business but it's fascinating when you think about how differently the course of business history would have played out if this and other decisions had gone the other way.
7. Boone Pickens: The Luckiest Guy in the World
This is a great story about how a regular guy from Texas left a large company and the corporate America safety net behind and started his own company, which grew from a few thousand dollars that he started with in 1955 to a billion dollar company decades later. Boone shares the structure of his 1st company which he started with basically no money; for anyone wanting to start there own company this information is priceless. It went like this:
Two partners put up $2,500 and he signed a note for his $2,500. The two partners established a $100,000 line of credit for the new company and Boone would have to have them off the note within 5 years or he would loose control of the company. He was President of the company and ran the day to day operations.
That's it, that simple, years later he's bidding for some of the largest oil companies in the world.
Some great quotes:
"It was up to me to find investors. Asking people for money is the most essential skill for a young dealmaker"
"Undercapitalization affects 90% of the new businesses in America"
"I had to adjust my dreams to fit reality-or could I somehow change reality to match my dreams?"
"Issuing stock for capital is the most fundamental service Wall Street provides. This classic stock market function has given rise to the great Wall Street firms-and for that matter, to America's industrial might. Entrepreneurs need more capital than banks are willing to lend..."
Boone told his attorneys he was going to stop them every time he did not understand something, and his attorney said, "You're paying us by the hour...this could get expensive." Boone replies, "It'll be a lot more expensive if I don't understand it now."
